October 31, 2023

If you've got dry skin or might describe your skin as stressed, this clean face oil might be your solution for nourished, glowing skin! Here is my honest review of Kinship Kinskin Ceramide Barrier Repair Oil.

When I ran out of my favorite all-natural face oil (that is also fairly expensive), I went searching for a less expensive option to nourish and moisturize my skin. It had to be clean, effective and suitable for my combination oily/breakout prone skin. I found my solution in this clean barrier repair oil that leaves my skin glowing at an affordable price! Read on for my full honest review of Kinship's Kinskin facial oil.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What Is Face Oil?

Facial oil is just what it sounds like - oil that you use on your face. They can be single oils, such as jojoba oil or argan oil, or blends to address specific concerns. Oils can also be blended with non-oil products for targeted skincare needs. Face oils are typically used as moisturizers, during the last step in a nighttime skin routine, since they support the skin barrier and lock in moisture, though some can be used along with more intensive moisturizers. Though it may sounds counterintuitive to slick oil on your face for those with oily skin, oils are suitable for all skin types, as long as you choose one for your skin's needs. (I switched to an oil years ago for my oily skin, and I've never looked back!)

Why You Need a Clean Face Oil

Face oils leave skin soft and smooth, and are often more powerful than conventional moisturizers because they are concentrated in moisture-locking ingredients without fillers. The lipids in oils help repair and nourish the skin barrier, which is essential for healthy skin.

Botanical oils found in clean or natural products also often have additional benefits because they often contain antioxidants, which can be anti-inflammatory and even antimicrobial depending on the type of oil. They'll also be free of irritating chemicals or synthetic fragrances. Just be sure you're using an oil suitable for your specific skin needs, as not all oils are suitable for all skin types.

Kinship Kinskin Ceramide Barrier Repair Oil: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 10/10

The brand focuses on plant based ingredients that are good for the skin's microbiome, and excludes over 1300 ingredients banned by the EU, like sulfates, silicones, parabens, and synthetic fragrance. This oil includes nourishing oat ceramides, stable vitamin C, and a repairing blend of omega fatty acids.

Experience: 10/10

Everything about this face oil is delightful! It smooths on easily, absorbs super quickly and smells like a cross between a peach and an apricot.

Performance: 9/10

This oil truly makes my skin feel healthier, more nourished and glowy. In the morning, I can use this alone as my moisturizer, especially in the summer months. If my skin is feeling especially stressed - breakouts, dry skin from treating breakouts, uneven texture - this oil helps calm, soothe, and repair my skin right away! In the evening or in the winter, I use a few drops in addition to a heavier oil or other moisturizer.

Value: 9/10

At $38, this oil is much less expensive than many other natural facial oils, which makes it even nicer! A few drops goes a long way, so one bottle last a fairly long time, even with twice-a-day use.

Overall: 9.5/10

Overall Impressions

This is a product I will absolutely buy again. It immediately soothes stressed, tired skin, making it look and feel healthy. I love the peachy smell and how quickly it absorbs (in a good way - not in a way that makes you feel like you need more moisture). Since it includes vitamin C, I get a nice glow without an additional product which is a plus. I also love that it can replace my more expensive facial oils as moisturizer in the morning, saving me money! Highly recommend it!

ILIA Multi Stick is The Only Cream Blush You'll Ever Need

October 2, 2023

woman's hand holding a tube of ILIA multi stick.

One simple product that easily swipes onto cheeks and lips, this creamy, non-toxic multi-stick may be the MVP of your makeup bag. Here is my full review of the ILIA Multi Stick.

hand holding ILIA multi stick with text overlay.

Whether you're a cream blush fan, or you've never used it - listen up! Cream blush in the form of a multi stick is the makeup product you never knew you needed. I've fallen in love with multi-sticks, and this is by far my favorite, with it's clean formulation, beautiful color, and ease of use. Keep reading for the full breakdown of why I love ILIA's Multi-Stick.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What is a Multi Stick?

A multi stick is exactly what it sounds like - a makeup stick that has multiple uses, usually as a cream blush and lip color. They are usually in a tube that rolls up similar to lipstick and add creamy color to cheeks, lips and sometimes even eyes.

Why You Need a Clean Blush

Any gal will tell you that blush is a much-needed wake-up for the face, making the difference between looking tired and dull or awake and vibrant. Even the subtlest hint of color is life-giving for a tired mama's face.

However, many conventional blushes contain ingredients that could potentially be harmful, including:

  • Talc - has a risk of contamination with asbestos, and has been linked to ovarian cancer
  • Parabens - commonly used in many personal care products and easily absorbed by the body, parabens are endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) linked to breast cancer, thyroid problems, obesity, reproductive problems in both males and females, and early onset of puberty in girls.
  • Lake Dyes - Color additives made by reacting pigment with chemical substrates (usually aluminum). Some of the lake dyes may be derived from naturally occurring plant or animal ingredients but the vast majority are synthetically produced from coal tar or petroleum, and may be carcinogenic.
  • Phenoxyethanol - Also called Ethylene glycol monophenyl ether (EGPE), is a common chemical and solvent used in industry and in consumer goods. It has shown developmental and reproductive toxicity, and may contain residual ethylene oxide, a known carcinogen.
  • BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene) - a chemical preservative commonly used in cosmetics and food that has been associated with endocrine disruption.

Luckily, there are plenty of options now that offer a safer way to get a rosy glow on your cheeks!

ILIA Multi Stick: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

Cruelty-free, certified gluten-free, fragrance-free, silicone-free, 99% naturally derived

Experience: 10/10

I love the packaging in a sleek tube with stainless steel twist-up stick, and best of all is that it doesn't require any tools! It's super easy to dab a little bit on my cheeks and gently blend with clean fingers or swipe on my lips for natural, beautiful color. It is also very creamy and moisturizing without looking oily or slick.

Performance: 10/10

The color is long lasting and buildable. The formula is moisturizing and good for skin. It comes in 12 beautiful shades - nine gorgeous, natural looking colors and three luminizers. I use the shade Tenderly, and it is the perfect amount of rosy pink color for my skin tone.

Value: 8/10

At $36, it is a little on the high side, but one stick lasts forever! I'm talking months. I probably buy two per year.

Overall: 9.25/10

Overall Impressions

ILIA's Multi-Stick is the product that made me fall in love with multi-sticks and cream blush in general. While I've tried other multi-purpose blushes and sticks, this is THE BEST. The texture is amazing - not sticky or drying, just perfectly moisturizing and blendable. There are so many gorgeous, natural looking shades that are easy to build on and last for hours without reapplication. For a busy mama like me who needs products to be quick and easy to apply and super effective, this multi-stick checks all the boxes and then some. It is truly one of the few must-have products in my makeup bag.

Can This Clean Deodorant Brighten Dark Underarms?

September 13, 2023

the takesumi bright mini deodorant againsst a marble backdrop.

This natural deodorant with niacinamide is made for brightening dark underarm skin and neutralizing odor. I put Kaia Naturals The Takesumi Bright Deodorant to the test, and this is my honest review.

the takesumi bright mini deodorant with text overaly.

Dark underarms? Or perhaps on your bikini line? You're not alone! Now there is a clean deodorant targeted to treat such hyperpigmentation with niacinamide and alpha arbutin while also leaving you smelling fresh. But does it work? I tried this clean deodorant and have mixed thoughts. Keep reading for my complete, honest review.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Need A Clean Deodorant

For me, switching to clean deodorant was an easy choice. The main ingredient in typical antiperspirant deodorants is aluminum, which has been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease. While the evidence is inconsistent and lacking, the ability for aluminum to interfere with estrogen receptors has been demonstrated. Furthermore, other chemicals commonly found in typical drugstore deodorants have been linked to breast cancer too. Even a small amount of evidence is enough cause for me to avoid regular deodorant, given my genetic predisposition to breast cancer.

When I decided to make the switch to natural products several years ago, deodorant was one of the first products I focused on, since I use it daily and in close proximity to susceptible breast tissue. That said, it's a process finding the right natural deodorant. Not all of them are created equal.

What It Claims: "2-in-1 deodorant brightens dark underarms and controls odor with natural brightening ingredients niacinamide and alpha arbutin." - Kaia Naturals Website

Kaia Naturals The Takesumi Bright Brightening Deodorant: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

Formulated under strict EU standards without aluminum, baking soda, parabens, or synthetic fragrances. Cruelty-free and vegan. Active ingredients include niacinamide and alpha arbutin.

Experience: 9/10

The packaging is nice and the product rolls on clear without feeling sticky. The vanilla and pear scent is subtle and pleasant. The product didn't leave any staining behind on my clothes, which is a major plus!

Performance: 6/10

I'm torn on what rating to give this deodorant. In one area, it worked great as advertised, but in another, it just didn't work for me. So the 6 is a compromise. Performance as a deodorant was not good for me. After just a few hours, my underarms were stinky. I had to reapply multiple times throughout the day, and even then, I felt I needed to shower and start over! Fail. For now, I'll be sticking to my current favorite deodorant.

HOWEVER, in the brightening department, I think it works well as advertised! I don't have and hyperpigmentation in the underarm area, but I did have a few dark spots on my bikini line from past ingrown hairs, so I tested it out on those. After just a few uses, I was surprised to see noticeable brightening! So it does get points for working as a skin brightener.

Value: 7/10

Again, I'm torn on what to rate the value. It depends on the use, I think. At $26, it's a little more expensive than some clean deodorants, especially if it doesn't work for you to neutralize odor. However, as a skin brightener, it's probably an affordable treatment option that will last for a good while.

Overall: 7.7/10

overhead view of an open mini stick of kaia naturals takesumi bright deodorant.

Overall Impressions

I wanted to love this deodorant, but I just didn't. It simply did not work with my body chemistry to keep me smelling fresh, which is obviously the number one function of a deodorant. I do think it is effective as a brightening treatment, though (and an affordable one at that!), so it probably depends on your goals. The reviews from many people state that it works great for them as a deodorant, so it could work for you if you're in need of a brightening solution. It may be worth a try if you have dark underarms, especially in tandem with the brand's brightening kojic acid bar.

What is Niacinamide?

September 8, 2023

hands holding a clear bottle of facial serum.

Niacinamide is a popular ingredient in many skincare products. Here, I'm explaining what niacinamide is, the benefits for skin, and how to add it to your everyday routine.

drop coming out of a dropper of facial serum with text overlay.

If you're a skincare junkie, or even just slightly interested in healthier skin and skincare products, you may have seen niacinamide popping up as a star ingredient. But what is niacinamide and what does it do for skin? I'm breaking it down for you here!

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What is Niacinamide?

Niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is a form of vitamin B3, or niacin. It is generally the form that is used topically, and is the active ingredient in many skincare products.

Niacinamide is also available as a supplement, and can be taken for preventing B3 deficiency.

Niacinamide Vs Niacin

Niacin can sometimes be used as the blanket term for vitamin B3 and its derivatives, however, niacin is not the same as niacinamide. Niacin is an acid (nicotinic acid or pyridine-3-carboxylic acid), whereas niacinamide is an amide (nicotinamide or pyridine-3-carboxamide), which has a different chemical structure. Niacin is generally less expensive and more easily found in the drugstore, but can also cause flushing and isn't quite as targeted for skincare.

Is It Clean?

Niacinamide is found in many clean beauty formulations. EWG's Skin Deep database gives it a rating of 1 (on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being on the safe end and 10 being unsafe). Since it is a form of vitamin B3, it can be naturally derived, but not all products containing niacinamide are necessarily clean or natural.

Benefits of Niacinamide for Skin

Overall, niacinamide helps moisturize and prevent signs of aging, and it appears to be helpful for a wide range of skin types and conditions including sensitive, dry and acne prone skin. Here are some of the more specific potential benefits of niacinamide:

  • Hydrates. Niacinamide was shown to prevent evaporation of the skin's moisture in one study. It also helps form your skin's lipid barrier, which helps lock in moisture.
  • Calms inflammation. It has anti-inflammatory affects in acne, rosacea, and other innflammatory skin conditions.
  • Strengthens the skin barrier. Niacinamide helps build keratin, a protein that keeps skin healthy and firm.
  • Improves acne. With its ability to calm inflammation and regulate sebum production, niacinamide can be beneficial in treating acne over time.
  • Fades dark spots. One study showed that niacinamide faded dark spots associated with melasma.
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Some research has suggested that niacinamide may reduce fine lines and wrinkles associated with skin damage and aging.
  • Protects from environmental stressors, like the sun and pollution. According to a review, niacinamide builds the skin barrier, helping to protect it from UV rays and oxidative stress.

Side Effects of Niacinamide

Some negative side effects of niacinamide appear to be associated with high oral doses. However, topically, it seems much less likely to cause side effects. Skin irritation may occur with topical concentrations higher than 5%, so be sure to read labels. If you have sensitive skin, it may be best to start with a concentration of 2% or less and test a small area of your skin first.

Is It Best To Use In Skincare or As a Supplement?

While vitamin B3 is important for healthy skin (and in general), most people get the amount needed daily from food. To reap the skincare benefits, it's more effective to use topically in serums, creams, or other skincare products. It can be found in many products, including some of your favorite clean skincare brands!

How To Use It

There is a wide variety of products containing niacinamide, but the most effective ones are those that stay on your skin, such as serums and moisturizers. Apply to your face after toning and before moisturizing if it is a serum. In concentrations of 5% or less, niacinamide can be used twice a day. Niacinamide can be used alongside other active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid or vitamin C.

woman in a pink shirt holding a tube of ilia brow gel with text overlay.

There are few products that I can truly say made an instant difference in my every day beauty routine. And even fewer still that have become instant favorites that I'll continue using daily for the foreseeable future! This product is one of them. Here is my full, honest review for my secret weapon when it comes to natural looking, polished brows - Ilia Essential Brow Gel.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Need A Clean Brow Gel

A brow gel has become a must in my routine, whether I'm going bare faced (except for SPF, of course!) or have a full face of makeup. While my brows are not super thin (thankfully my teen years of over-plucking didn't do permanent damage!), nor terribly unruly, there are a few sparse areas that could look a little fuller, and I think everyone's naked brows could stand to be tamed just a tad. Like magic, a tinted brow gel does both in a matter of seconds!

A brow gel instantly makes your whole face look more put together without the need for dramatic, painful, or costly treatments. Simply swipe a thin coat of product across your brows with the wand that looks like a mini mascara spoolie, and your brows are tamed, filled in, and cleaned up in mere seconds, giving your face a more polished look whether you are wearing makeup or not. It's truly a game changer. And since I use this every day (and you will too once you try it!) using a clean formula ensures that you're not using any toxic, harsh, or irritating ingredients on your skin and near your eyes. Below you'll find my full, honest review of one of my favorite makeup products of all time - Ilia's Essential Brow Gel.

The Affordable Clean Body Wash That Lathers Like a Dream

August 2, 2023

If you're frustrated with clean body washes that cost a fortune and leave you needing more lather, look no further - this body wash gives you the lather you crave at a great value!

hand holding a bottle of puracy natural body wash with text overlay.

Switching to an all natural body wash seems like it should be a simple task. But in my experience, it's been a little frustrating. Most products are either too expensive, or they just don't do much. I can't be the only one disappointed when a pricey bottle of soap barely produces a single bubble in the shower. But I have finally found a really good shower gel that leaves me happy with both the price and performance (and then some!). If you love a good sudsy body wash that won't cost you a fortune, you'll love Puracy Natural Body Wash!

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Need a Clean Body Wash

If you're a human who takes baths or showers, you obviously need a good soap or shower gel to wash off the grime of the day. The problem with many conventional soaps and shower gels sold at big box stores is that they are made with several toxic ingredients - including ethanolamines (MEA, DEA and TEA) which are foaming agents linked to hormone disruption; triclosan, which is an antibacterial ingredient linked to hormone disruption and cancer; and synthetic fragrance, which could be a mix of any chemicals that manufacturers are not required to disclose. Many of these ingredients are already banned in the EU, but regulation of personal care products is very loosely regulated in the US.

Since you (presumably) use body wash or soap every day and all over your body, it's a good idea to use one that is free from potentially harmful ingredients.

Puracy Natural Body Wash: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 7/10

Formulated without sulfates, cocamidopropyl betaine, formaldehyde, parabens, phosphates, petroleum-based ingredients, animal by-products, chlorine, dyes, or caustics. This wash is naturally derived, hypoallergenic, vegan, gluten-free, & biodegradable. While there are a couple of non-natural ingredients (the website states it is 98.6% natural), I think the utmost care was put into safety of the formulation and appreciate the full transparency.

Experience: 10/10

The lather is SO. SATISFYING. Forget all the other body washes that produce no suds. This one is amazing. Beyond the bubbles, this body wash smells delightful. The citrus & sea salt smells fresh with just a hint of citrus, while the coconut & vanilla is warm and cozy without being sickly sweet. They used to make a bergamot & sandalwood scent as well that I loved, so I hope they bring it back!

Performance: 10/10

With the nice lather, my skin feels truly clean after using just one pump of this wash. My skin is hydrated and doesn't get dried out in the least.

Value: 10/10

This wash is definitely on the less expensive end when it come to a clean body wash. A little bit goes a long way - just one pump on a loofah is sufficient for my whole body. And I love that Puracy offers 48 oz refills for an even more economical option after you try (and love) it!

Overall: 9.25/10

After being disappointed by many others (looking at you, castile soap!), this will always be my go-to body wash. It functions like a normal body wash with a luxurious foamy lather and delicious smell (that's not over-powering!), but actually makes skin healthy and hydrated. It's both clean and affordable, with a convenient and cost-effective refill option. What's not to love? If you're on the fence, I'd say go for it, you won't regret trying this one!

This Clean Leave In Conditioner Instantly Tames Unruly Hair

July 14, 2023

bottle of innersense leave in conditioner on a white marble background.

If your clean conditioner is leaves your hair tangled and lacking moisture, Innersense Organic Leave In Conditioner is the solution for detangling and smoothing unruly hair without weighing it down. Here is my honest review.

hand holding innersense leave in conditioner with text overlay.

When it comes to conditioners made with clean ingredients, I've found that it's incredibly difficult to find something that works for fine or oily hair. Most products seem to teeter on being lightweight and not quite moisturizing enough, or being super heavy and leaving my hair oily after a single day. I refuse to wash my hair every day (dry shampoo is my friend!), so I tend to pick the former. I have found one product that I love for it's weight, but it still leaves my hair tangly when I step out of the shower, making it difficult to run the hairbrush through.

I've finally found a solution that leaves me with smooth, tangle-free hair that isn't weighed down or greasy! AND I can still use my favorite conditioner in the shower. It's an organic leave in conditioner that is a must have for anyone with unruly tangles or parched hair: Innersense Leave In Conditioner. Read on for my full, honest review.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What Is Leave In Conditioner?

A leave in conditioner is, as described, a conditioner that you leave in your hair instead of rinsing it out. You use it post-shower, after washing with your normal shampoo and conditioner, on damp hair. It is more lightweight than a regular conditioner, and detangles, adds shine and moisturizes hair as part of the styling routine. You can think of it like a hair mask that you leave in and can be used daily (or with each wash).

Why Clean Conditioner Matters

Traditional conditioners, including leave in products, often contain harmful ingredients like silicones, parabens, and synthetic fragrances. Silicones, while giving your hair that slippery feel, don't actually allow moisture to penetrate strands, leaving hair dry, while also weighing hair down. They can also build up and cause scalp inflammation. Parabens, used as preservatives, have been linked to cancer, and "fragrance" can mean any combination of chemicals that could cause harm to health, including allergies, skin irritation, and potentially even reproductive harm. Probably best to skip these ingredients. Luckily, there are plenty of great products with clean formulations.

Innersense Sweet Spirit Leave In Conditioner: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

All Innersense products are EU Certified, organic, cruelty free, and formulated without phthalates, ethoxylates, sulfates, silicones, 1,4 dioxane, parabens, petro compounds, propylene and butylene glycol, PEG, MEA, TEA, MIA, EDTA artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances.

This leave in conditioner includes anti-inflammatory tamanu oil, moisturizing honey, lavender, and rosemary oil, among other beneficial ingredients.

Experience: 9/10

The products smells pleasant with hints of sweetness and lavender, without being overbearing, and feels light when spritzing. The pump works well and distributes the product evenly. My only complaint, which isn't a huge deal, is that the lettering on the bottle tends to rub off easily.

Performance: 10/10

I can't say enough great things about this leave-in conditioner! It instantly smooths and detangles my hair after showering. After blow-drying, my hair is noticeably more moisturized with less frizz and fewer flyaways. And best of all, it doesn't weigh my hair down or leave it greasy, which is a big concern for me.

Value: 8/10

The price point is pretty good. A little goes a long way, so the product lasts a long time. The brand offers a travel sized bottle, which is nice if you want to try the leave in conditioner before committing to the full sized bottle. Even the travel size lasts me at least 3-4 months, with me using it twice a week.

Overall Impressions

This has become a must-have product for me. While I truly love the clean conditioner I use, it doesn't detangle well. This leave-in conditioner fixes that for me, and adds noticeable moisture to my hair. I was worried that using a leave-in conditioner would weigh my hair down or leave it oily, causing me to increase the frequency of washes, but to my surprise, it doesn't weigh my hair down one bit! It is full of volume and free from frizzy flyaways. And my hair looks and feels healthy and hydrated after using it for several weeks. I highly recommend it for anyone needing extra moisture or who struggles to brush their tangly hair post-shower!

The Clean Skincare Line I Keep Coming Back To For My Breakout Prone Skin

July 10, 2023

hand holding up a dropper bottle of true botanicals facial oil.

I've tried so many clean beauty products to clear up acne and soothe breakout-prone skin, and there is only one standout brand that I come back to every time. Here is my honest review of True Botanicals Clear Skincare Line.

hand holding up a dropper bottle of true botanicals facial oil with text overlay.

If you struggle with oily skin, breakouts, and acne, especially as an adult (ugh!), I understand the frustration. Problem skin is stressful, and stress seems to make it worse. Even in my adult years, I've struggled to keep my skin clear through pregnancies, breastfeeding, and the resulting hormonal shifts. It seems I've tried all the natural skincare products targeting oily and breakout prone skin, with mostly disappointing results. But there is one line of clean skincare products that I return to over and over again. It is the absolute best routine I've found for clearing up and nourishing my combo/oily problem skin: True Botanicals.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What Is The Best Skincare Routine for Oily or Breakout Prone Skin?

While all skin is unique and the same routine won't work for everyone, there is a general routine that performs well for those with oily, breakout-prone, or combination-oily skin. It should follow these steps, morning and night:

  1. Cleanse - Use a cleanser aimed at gently clearing up skin. If your cleanser leaves your skin feeling tight, it might be too harsh and could cause your skin to produce more oil. Use a soft washcloth to gently exfoliate.
  2. Tone - Use a liquid exfoliating toner that doesn't strip skin; something with gentle exfoliators, such as willow bark extract, or even AHAs or glycolic acid, on a cotton pad.
  3. Treat - This is where you'll use a serum or treatment aimed at clearing and/or exfoliating skin. A serum or spot treatment with salicylic acid can help with blemishes, while a serum with retinol or a retinol alternative in the evening can help with skin resurfacing.
  4. Moisturize - Even if you have oily skin, you still need a moisturizer! Especially if your cleanser or other products are too harsh, stripping or drying your skin can lead your skin to produce excess oil, which will clog pores more. Look for a lightweight moisturizer formulated for oily or blemish-prone skin. While some derms will recommend an oil-free moisturizer, I've found that a skin oil is actually the best lightweight moisturizer (you just have to use the right kind!).

In the mornings, be sure to follow your moisturizer with SPF! And once or twice a week, you may choose to include an exfoliating mask (this one is my favorite!) or a clearing mask.

Why Clean Skincare Products Matter For Breakout Prone Skin

Clean, nourishing ingredients in your skincare is especially important if you have acne-prone skin, because anything too harsh can irritate skin even more. You want to avoid stripping skin with alcohols or peroxides. You also don't want synthetic fragrances or other ingredients irritating your skin. This is especially true if you have hormonal acne!

Other ingredients in traditional cleansers and lotions, such as Parabens, Phthalates, SLS/SLES, and BHT have been linked not only to skin irritation, but to increased risk of cancers and endocrine disruption. Not what we want to be putting on our skin every day! That why I choose to use the cleanest skincare products I can. (They also tend to be more gentle and effective!)

True Botanicals Clear Cleanser, Toner and Oil: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 10/10

All True Botanicals are MADE SAFE® certified, the most comprehensive safety standard available. They are also cruelty-free and GMO free. All products are thoughtfully formulated not only with safe ingredients but highly powerful, effective ingredients that truly nourish and work with not against skin.

Experience: 10/10

I'm obsessed with the experience of ALL True Botanicals products. I've been a fan for years because of the luxurious glass packaging, scents, and high and feel of each and every product. The clear line features natural, floral notes of helichrysum, lavender, and carrot seed that feels sophisticated yet grounding. It's just a joy to use.

Performance: 9/10

I'm not sure anything will clear up my hormonal breakouts completely, but this line of products is the closest I've come in over 5 years. Even through problematic pregnancy skin, this cleanser, toner, and oil has helped me maintain a confident, glowy complexion with minimal breakouts. My face feels truly healthy and smooth, and hydrated, unlike with other products. Every time I switch up my routine, I notice a difference and end up coming back to True Botanicals. Seriously, every time.

Value: 7/10

The biggest downside to True Botanicals is the cost. It is more expensive than most facial products out there. However, for something that is safe and truly works, I'm willing to pay a premium. The products are very concentrated, so I find that they last a good bit. You can subscribe to save a little money, and they also have sales every few months, so that's when I stock up!

Overall: 9.5/10

womans hands pumping true botanicals cleanser from a bottle on a vanity.

Overall Impressions

This is most certainly not your teenager's acne routine. As I stated, I've been a big fan of True Botanicals for years. I truly haven't found a better skin care line for my oily, breakout-prone (and as I get older, more combo-oily) adult skin. This combination of cleanser, toner, and oil always leaves me with nourished, clear, skin that I feel better about showing off without makeup. Any time I try something else, I regret it and come back to this trusty routine. It's luxurious and a little expensive, but it's a splurge I'm willing to make.

Buy It: True Botanicals Clear Nourishing Cleanser, Nutrient Toner & Pure Radiance Oil

There are several products available under the Clear line, so it can be a little confusing. The classic routine is the Cleanser, Toner and Oil. If you can, I suggest adding the Vitamin C Booster (with or without the Chebula Serum) and the Resurfacing Moisture Mask if you really want to tackle breakouts and scars or dark spots to reveal extra glowy skin. If you don't want to go all-in just yet, I recommend for sure getting the Cleanser and Oil to start.

Pai Light Work Cleansing Oil Review

July 7, 2023

This all natural cleansing oil with rosehip removes makeup and can be used on its own or in a double cleansing routine. Here is my honest review of Pai Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil.

bottle of pai light work cleanser with text overlay.

If your regular cleansing routine is leaving you wanting more, it might be time to try oil cleansing. I tried a popular clean brand of oil cleanser in my double cleansing routine, and the results were not what I expected. Read on for my full review of Pai's Light Work Cleansing Oil.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What Is Cleansing Oil?

If you haven't heard of a cleansing oil yet, it may sound counter-intuitive. But they are actually great! Cleansing oil is a facial oil that is used like a cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen, dirt and oil. They can be used on their own or as the first step in a double cleansing routine. Oil dissolves oil, and can also breakdown oil-free formulas, such as eye makeup, without stripping skin of it's natural barrier, so oil cleansing is a great way to clean the skin for people with sensitive and dry skin.

Why You Need A Clean Cleansing Oil

Benefits of using a cleansing oil include clearer skin, as oil helps dissolve and lift out excess sebum, clogged pores, makeup and pollutants; and healthy, nourished skin since the natural lipid barrier of the skin remains intact.

It's important to choose a clean formula since the type of oil matters. You want a high quality (preferable organic) blend of oils, otherwise you could end up with clogged pores instead of clear skin. You also want to avoid products with added fragrances, dyes, or preservatives, as they can cause irritation and potentially harm your health.

How To Use It

To use oil cleanser, you massage the oil onto dry skin to dissolve any makeup or sunscreen. Add a little warm water to emulsify the oil and form a milk. Then wash away with warm water or a wet washcloth.

You can stop there, or follow up with your favorite traditional cleanser for a double-cleansing routine.

What It Is: An all-natural cleansing oil formulated with nourishing rosehip oil to cleanse, balance, and soften sensitive skin.

What It Claims: "Gentle yet ultra efficient, our Rosehip cleansing oil shifts make-up, SPF and daily grime at speed. The result? Soft, clean skin without any irritation. Our 100% natural cleansing oil is clinically proven for sensitive skin, and melts away impurities and eye make-up with ease – no rubbing, no stinging, no problem." - Pai Website

Pai Light Work Cleansing Oil: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 7/10

COSMOS Organic certified, Vegan, Cruelty-free, All natural. Active ingredients include rosehip oil, which contains omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9, and antioxidant carotenoids to replenish and protect skin. I do wish there were a higher amount of rosehip oil compared to other oils in the formulation.

Experience: 5/10

The smell is light and pleasant, and the packaging is nice. However, I found it oddly difficult to smooth across my face when trying to use it. It is thin when pumping it out, but feels thick and sticky trying to massage it into my skin, even after adding water to emulsify it.

Performance: 3/10

Unfortunately, this product just didn't work for me. I felt that it didn't remove makeup well, as I still had to try to remove all of my face makeup with another cleanser and washcloth following the oil - and I typically wear pretty light makeup. After a couple weeks' use, it left my breakout-prone skin more congested than before.

Value: 5/10

Probably not the most expensive, but certainly not cheap either. The bottle large bottle is pretty small for the price point, and since I felt I really had to use a lot to cover my whole face, the value isn't great.

Overall: 5/10

hand holding a mini bottle of pai light work cleansing oil.

Overall Impressions

I had high hopes for this cleansing oil, but unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. It felt too difficult to massage onto my skin, and I just don't feel it worked well at removing even my light makeup. Though I really wanted the rosehip oil to help clear up my breakout-prone skin, something about the combination of other oils (including olive, sunflower, and castor oils) didn't work well with my skin and caused me to breakout even more. The website is full of raving reviews, so I'm sure it works well for other people, but it just didn't for my skin.

A Clean Dry Shampoo That Comes In a Spray!

June 29, 2023

Extend your hair washing with this super effective, clean dry shampoo - that comes in a convenient spray can! Here's my honest review of Puracy Dry Shampoo.

woman spraying dry shampoo in her hair with text overlay.

If you're a busy mama (or a busy woman who's not a mama!) you know that finding the time to wash, dry and style your hair every day can be more than challenging. It's also just not healthy for your hair. But nobody wants to go about their day with greasy locks, even if it's just doing chores around the house. That's where dry shampoo comes in. It can help you go further between washes while still looking and feeling your best. Today I'm sharing with you the best cleanly formulated dry shampoo out there - Puracy. Read on to learn why I love it so much.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

What Is Dry Shampoo?

Dry shampoo is a powder or spray that absorbs excess oil. Though it doesn't clean your hair the way washing our hair in the shower does, it can reduce greasiness and give your hair more body and texture, extending the time between washes.

Many dry shampoos available on drugstore shelves use toxic ingredients like talc, benzene, and synthetic fragrance. Talc and benzene have been linked to cancer, while synthetic fragrances can be endocrine disruptors, affecting the reproductive system. Not exactly ingredients we want to be using on a daily basis! But there are healthier alternatives for dry shampoo available.

Do Clean Dry Shampoos Actually Work?

One problem with cleaner formulas is that they tend to be less effective and more difficult to use. They often come in a power form to avoid benzene or other propellants, and may not be as good at absorbing oil. But there certainly are clean dry shampoos that work well! You'll want to look for formulas with an absorbing ingredient, such as arrowroot power, corn starch, rice starch, or kaolin clay. And ideally one with essential oils as the only fragrance. While powders that you sprinkle in are more frustrating and messy to use, they generally have a cleaner and simple ingredient list - though they also may be less effective at absorbing oil.

What It Is: A benzene-free, hypoallergenic, microfine dry shampoo formula that balances sebum production, absorbs excess oil, and nourishes the hair and scalp.

What It Claims: "While our silicone-free formula effortlessly absorbs sweat and oil, this dry shampoo goes a step further to promote a healthier scalp with plant-based hydration and carefully-selected antioxidants. This formula is packed with a powerhouse blend of extracts and oils that nurture your hair and scalp in between washes – without flaking or gunky buildup. Skin barrier-protecting ingredients nurture and revitalize your skin between shampoos." - Puracy Website

Puracy Dry Shampoo: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 6/10

Certified benzene-free, and free from sulfates, talc, parabens, phthalates, silicones, and synthetic fragrances. It includes nourishing plant extracts and essential oils. Though since it is a spray, there has to be some propellant to get it out. This one uses a somewhat safer one, isobutane.

Experience: 10/10

If you've used a lot of powdered dry shampoos (or baby powder like I did in high school, *cringe*), you know that spreading a powder all through your roots is not the easiest thing to do. It can also get pretty messy. The ease of a spray just cant be beat, especially if you're in a hurry! This dry shampoo goes on easily, smells pleasant without a super strong smell, and a little goes a long way.

Performance: 10/10

This dry shampoo works wonders. It instantly de-greases hair and adds tons of texture and lift to limp roots. It also works all day, unlike some products that I feel wane in effectiveness after a few hours.

Value: 10/10

Puracy is great because their products are affordable. At just under $10, this bottle of dry shampoo is at the same price point of many drugstore brands, which makes it a great value!

Overall: 9/10

bottle of puracy dry shampoo with a hair brush behind it on a marble background.

Overall Impressions

This is my go-to dry shampoo. It works so quickly to absorb oil and add body without all the mess of a powder. I can use it once on my hair and extend my wash for at least 2 days without having to reapply - game changer for busy mamas! While it may not be as squeaky clean in ingredients as some powder formulas, it's still pretty darn good. And there is no matching the value, ease and effectiveness.

The Best All Natural Hand Cream I Steal From My Kids' Bathroom

June 28, 2023

For nourishing super dry hands, this all natural cream is the ultimate healer. The best natural hand cream also happens to be made by a popular non-toxic kid's brand.

woman holding a tube of tubby todd dream cream in front of her with text overlay.

As a mom of two little ones and a recipe developer, I'm washing hands or washing dishes more often than not. All that hot water wreaks havoc on my hands, so they're parched and cracking, even in the summer. But I have a secret weapon for keeping my hands soft and hydrated - one that I stole from my kids' bathroom cabinet!

If you're constantly washing your hands and have the cracked skin and dry cuticles to prove it, look no further than Tubby Todd's Dream Cream to rescue your skin! You're going to love this non-toxic cream for your hands.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Need A Natural Hand Cream

We all get dry skin at some point, especially those of use who constantly wash hands (or dishes!) or use hand sanitizer frequently. Super dry skin can become cracked and painful. We all need a good moisturizer to hydrate, soothe and protect dry hands. However, not all hand creams are created equal - especially here in the US, where the beauty and cosmetics industry is poorly regulated.

Many conventional hand creams contain ingredients that could be harmful to your health, such as BHA (a preservative that is an endocrine disruptor and possible carcinogen), Parabens (which have been linked to endocrine disruption and breast cancer), Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, and Synthetic Fragrance (which is often a mix of toxic chemicals).

Tubby Todd Dream Cream: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 10/10

Gluten-free, cruelty-free, and made in the USA with natural, plant-based ingredients; no parabens, synthetic fragrances or preservatives.

Experience: 10/10

This cream has a nice, light scent of shea butter and mint. Not too noticeable, just pleasant. (There is also an unscented option.) The packaging makes it easy to squeeze out a dollop, and the cream itself is super rich and slathers on nicely without leaving a greasy residue.

Performance: 10/10

In the dead of winter when my hands get super dry from biting wind, the heat always being on, and lots of hot water, this cream is the only thing that will sooth my cracking skin! It instantly hydrates my dry skin, and leaves it hydrated for hours (unlike some other products which seem to soak in and have no effect). It is truly a dream!

Value: 8/10

It's a little pricey for a hand cream, but even the small bottle is pretty big! A little goes a long way, and I don't feel the need to constantly reapply, so I feel like it's a pretty good value overall.

Overall: 9.5/10

hand holding a tube of tubby todd dream cream.

Overall Impressions

I'm smitten with this cream! Though it is marketed as a kid's cream to help soothe eczema and other dry skin issues, it outperforms any adult hand cream I've come across. I stole my kids' bottle and keep it stashed in my purse to hydrate my woefully dry hands. It is so luxuriously rich, with lasting hydration that really heals cracked skin. I love the nice soothing scent and generous size. This will forever be my go-to hand cream!

If you're hoping to jump on the vitamin C train but are worried about sensitive or breakout prone skin, Pai C-2 Believe moisturizer may be the solution! Read my full review of this brightening moisturizer made with stable vitamin C and hyaluronic acid.

hand holding a bottle of pai vitamin C moisturizer over a white marble counter with text overlay.

When in comes to skincare products, there are so many buzz worthy ingredients that stand out, that it makes it hard to make a decision on what to purchase. You need vitamin C! No, hyaluronic acid! No, AHAs! How can you fit everything into one skincare routine without breaking the bank or spending hours at the vanity? Find one product that effectively combines multiple star ingredients. This new (to me) organic moisturizer combines potent vitamin C and hyaluronic acid into one skin-brightening moisturizer (no separate serum needed!) to simply, streamline, and deliver results, even if you have sensitive skin. Read on for my full review.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why Vitamin C Deserves a Spot in Your Beauty Routine

We know it's important to get vitamin C in out diets for healthy bodies, but vitamin C also does great things for your skin when applied on the surface! This antioxidant can improve the health and appearance of your skin by boosting collagen production, brightening dark spots, reducing fine lines, and protecting against sun damage. That's why vitamin C is popping up as an ingredient in lots of facial serums and lotions.

However, vitamin C is pretty unstable, so it's hard to actually get it into a product and onto your skin. Not all vitamin C facial products are created equal. That's why I'm loving Pai's vitamin C moisturizer.

Our stabilized formula blends the ultimate radiance-boosting antioxidant with upcycled Bilberry extract for essential skin repair. Highly potent, yet kind to skin." - from the Pai website

Pai Vitamin C-2 Believe Vitamin C Brightening Moisturizer: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

COSMOS Organic certified, Vegan, Cruelty-free, All natural. Active ingredients include Vitamin C in a stable, oil-soluble form; hyaluronic acid for powerful hydration; and soothing and strengthening bilberry extract, all sustainably sourced.

Experience: 9/10

This moisturizer says it's a cream, but it felt much lighter - in a good way. I typically hate the weight of most creams but this feels more like a deep moisturizing lotion. There is no sticky feel at all. It has a nice, fresh scent with bright citrus notes that's not over-powering. It absorbs fairly quickly, so I can move on with my routine after applying it.

Performance: 8/10

After using the full mini-sized bottle, I feel like my skin is well nourished, hydrated, and noticeably brighter, though not as dramatic as having a facial or using a peel. I have no redness or irritation, and it doesn't make me breakout, which is always a gamble with new moisturizers. Success!

Value: 7/10

Though it may seem a little spendy, it doesn't cost as much as the oil moisturizer I'd been using. And I didn't need to use a lot for each application, so one bottle should last a good while.

Overall: 8.25

I've been hooked on oil moisturizers for a while, so I was nervous about using a cream. Pai's vitamin C moisturizer out my fears to rest and exceeded my expectations. I love the scent and how easily it smooths onto my face. I especially love that it doesn't seem to clog my pores and helps to lighten up darker spots on my face. Overall, I would purchase it again.

This Gentle Exfoliating Mask Leaves My Dull Skin Glowy, Naturally

May 26, 2023

If you struggle with dull skin or uneven texture, Herbivore Botanicals PRISM AHA + BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial mask may be the nontoxic product that helps your skin glow! Read on for my honest review.

jar of herbivore botanicals prism mask in front of a fresh flower on a bathroom counter with text overlay.

If your skin feels dull, uneven, or clogged as you get older, you're not alone. Instead of trying to scrub away rough, dull, or dead skin with hash exfoliants, why not try something more natural to give you a radiant glow? What if that something was also both gentle and powerful? Keep reading for my complete review of one of my favorite all-natural exfoliating masks.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Who Should Use An Exfoliating Mask

There are so many factors that can cause dull, uneven skin tone - including buildup of dead skin cells, aging, dehydration, poor sleep, environmental pollution and stress. Making things worse, the process of skin cell turnover as we age slows down, meaning we need a little extra help to get that glowy complexion. That's where an exfoliating mask can come in. Exfoliating masks can help slough off dead skin cells with either physical or chemical exfoliants, revealing the bright, even skin underneath. I prefer a gentle chemical exfoliant that uses naturally occurring acids.

Some people also have issues with skin cell turnover that can lead to clogged pores and acne. Exfoliation can also be helpful here, as chemical exfoliants can help speed up cell turnover, reducing the chances that dead skin cells will clog pores.

So if you struggle with dullness, roughness, uneven skin, clogged pores, or acne, an exfoliating product may be the change in your routine you need!

What Are AHAs and BHAs?

AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid. AHA's are naturally occurring acids found in fruits, sugar, and dairy, and include lactic acid, glycolic acid, malic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid. They are chemical exfoliators that increase cell turnover by loosening the top layer of skin cells and encouraging the skin to grow more cells.

BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid. BHAs also help to exfoliate the skin, and are often more effective at unclogging pores and preventing buildup inside pores. Some are naturally occurring and others may not be. The main BHA found in skincare is salicylic acid, and others include beta hydroxybutanoic acid, tropic acid, and trethocanic acid. If you're looking for a natural source of salicylic acid, look for willow bark extract.

AHAs and BHAs can be combined in skincare products to help exfoliate skin more effectively.

Herbivore Botanicals PRISM Glow Facial: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

All Herbivore Botanicals products are naturally derived and made without synthetic  dyes, fragrances, and preservatives. Additionally, they are concentrated blends containing no fillers and using the minimum amount of ingredients necessary to achieve the maximum results. They are also vegan and cruelty free.

Experience: 9/10

Rather than "jelly-textured", I'd say this facial mask is more between a liquid and a gel. I love that it goes on clear (no scaring the kids or husband!) and doesn't have a strong smell. It may tingle ever so slightly if you leave it on too long - over 10 minutes or so for me - but not in a bad way. I always feel like a product is working if I can feel a little tingle. I also like that it doesn't dry on my face, so I don't have to scrub when it's time to wash it off.

Performance: 9/10

After washing the mask away with warm water, my face looks more glowy and even-textured! I really can tell a small difference after just one use, but using it 1-2 times a week really gives me a noticeably improved complexion with fewer bumps and rough patches.

Value: 8/10

This mask is a little less expensive than some of the higher end all-natural masks out there. Since a little goes a long way, one jar lasts for a good while.

Overall: 8.75/10

hand holding a jar of herbivore botanicals prism mask.

Overall Impressions

I really like this "glow facial" for making my dull skin brighter and more even toned. One of the best parts for me is that it's so easy to use - it doens't feel like a chore the way some masks do, meaning I'm more likely to actually use it once or twice a week rather than letting it sit unused in a drawer. It's gentle, but I also see results. And of course, I love that I can feel good about the clean ingredients!

Anyone who has made the switch to natural deodorant can tell you that it's not the easiest process. Finding a nontoxic deodorant that works for you can feel a little like kissing frogs. I went through a few formulas myself before landing on the one I've been using for years - Primally Pure. Here's my honest review of Primally Pure natural deodorant.

Primally Pure Deodorant: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 10/10

This is one of the cleanest formulas I have come across. It is made with recognizable ingredients, including baking soda, kaolin clay, and non-nano zinc oxide, as well as other good-for-you organic ingredients including grass-fed tallow, fair trade coconut oil, arrowroot powder, beeswax and essential oils.

Experience: 9/10

It's deodorant, so it's not exactly a spa-worthy ritual. That said, the deodorant comes in nice packaging that you swipe on like traditional deo (no rubbing gunk from a jar under your pits!), and each scent I've tried smells nice, except for the unscented of course, which speaks for itself. It goes on almost sheer, and though you may find a little on your clothes every once in a while, it hasn't stained any of my clothes.

Performance: 8/10

This deodorant outperforms all natural deodorants I've tried! While it won't keep you from sweating (no natural deodorant will because it's free from aluminum!) it does keep me from stinking on normal days. I live in a very hot place, so some days require an extra application, but overall I find it pretty darn effective, especially the charcoal version.

Value: 8/10

Primally Pure deodorant is a little more expensive than the natural kinds you may find on the shelves of Target or Sprouts, but I can assure you it works much better! I appreciate that they also offer smaller sizes that you can use to test a new scent or throw in travel bags. And you can get a discount for subscribing.

Overall: 8.75/10

Overall Impressions

There is a reason I keep going back to Primally Pure deodorant. I've used the Charcoal, Lavender, Unscented and Vanilla-Citrus versions, and find that they are all effective and smell nice. They keep me fresh for the most part (except for super hot, sweaty days) and I feel good knowing that the ingredients are super clean and healthy.

Beautycounter Instant Eye Makeup Remover Review

May 9, 2023

I used a whole bottle of Beautycounter Instant Eye Makeup Remover. Here is my honest review of the award-winning nontoxic makeup remover.

Even if you don't wear a ton of makeup - I certainly don't - it's always a good idea to have a good makeup remover in your bathroom drawer. On days that I do wear makeup, I like using a makeup remover. Not necessarily for eye makeup since I use nontoxic formulas that are generally pretty easy to get off, but because I like to make sure I dissolve all of my face makeup. Using a makeup remover before cleanser helps ensure that my face gets nice and clean at the end of the day, reducing the chance of breakouts.

[feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Need a Natural Makeup Remover

Makeup removers are different from cleansers. Makeup removers do just what they say - remove makeup. They're designed to break down hard to remove products, such as stubborn eye makeup, without scrubbing, but can also be effective at breaking down face makeup and sunscreen. (But they don't typically cleanse, so you should follow with a facial cleanser.)

Makeup removers are typically made with oil, water, and a preservative of some sort, though the oil is the ingredient that does the breaking down and dissolving. Because some makeup removers use chemical preservatives that release formaldehyde (known as "formaldehyde-releasing compounds") it's important to use a natural, or 'clean' formula to ensure it's safe.

Beautycounter Instant Eye Makeup Remover: My Honest Review

Ingredients: 9/10

Free from ingredients on The Never List™, EWG Verified, Vegan, Cruelty Free

Experience: 7/10

While there is certainly nothing bad about the experience using this product, there is nothing memorable either. The packaging is well designed for ease of use. There is no smell to the product whatsoever. So while it does the job and certainly doesn't detract from an evening routine, it doesn't really enhance the ritual either. No complaints though!

Performance: 8/10

This makeup remover works well to remove makeup and sunscreen with ease. I typically just use my hands to massage it over my face, but if you have lots of eye makeup, you may want to use a cotton pad (I like these reusable ones!). The reason I'm taking off a couple of points is that it uses coconut oil, which my skin is a little sensitive to in terms of breakouts. But if coconut based products don't affect your skin, this shouldn't be an issue for you!

Value: 7/10

While this makeup remover is less expensive than most nontoxic formulas, there is a lot of water in it, which I feel is a little unnecessary. However, a little goes a long way so the generous sized bottle will last you a good bit of time.

Overall: 8/10

Overall Impressions

After using the whole bottle of Beautycounter's Instant Eye Makeup Remover all over my face, I have a good overall opinion of it. I feel I can trust Beautycounter's standards for choosing safe ingredients due to their transparent formulations and activism for safer beauty products. I think this remover does the job well and would probably buy it again because of the affordable price tag. However, because of the coconut oil (and because I want to keep trying new products to review for all of you!), I'll try others in the future.

Here is my full review of Taos Aer natural deodorant, including what I loved and where it went wrong.

Aluminum-Free, Paraben-Free, Cruelty-Free, Talc-Free, + Scented With Entirely Natural Essential Oils

Experience: 5/10

The first few days, I was absolutely smitten. The smell! The sleek packaging! The ease with which the formula glided seamlessly into my skin! Unfortunately the bliss was short lived. After about a week's use, I found it increasingly more difficult to get get the knob that pushes more ingredient up and out to actually turn, meaning I couldn't get more product out. Which was a bummer because I could see it was there, I just couldn't make it come out!

One day when I was in a hurry to get dressed, my patience ran out and I threw the entire stick on my marble tile floor (like any mature adult) and it broke. Well wouldn't you know, the knob started turning more easily! Unfortunately since the top was cracked and broken, it wasn't usable at that point. If it was easier to actually get the product out, it would have been a 10 here.

Performance: 10/10

This might be the best performing natural deodorant I've come across so far. It kept me smelling fresh all day and even overnight through night sweats. Like, it works better than some non-natural formulas. AND with no irritation, bumps, or clothing stains.

Value: 6/10

I'm basing this on if I was able to use the full stick. While it is a little pricey and there is not much in the actual stick (I found that out when the packaging broke and I was able to peek inside), you do have to use very little each day, which is nice.

Overall: 7.5/10

Overall Impressions

For at least a solid week, this was my new go-to. It performs SO well and was a joy to put on! The smell was lovely and kept me smelling fresh all day long. However, my dreams were crushed when it became a battle to get any more product out each day, even though I knew there was plenty left. The last straw was when I broke the plastic and couldn't use it anymore. At a semi-expensive price point, I don't know that I'd buy it again at the risk of a repeat experience. Though if they'd fix the packaging, I'd 100% buy it again.
